“Stew Vreeland’s poignant sculpture “Guns&Rosès” turns our thoughts to where we are as a country now… in hope of positive change…and is an outstanding contribution to Sculpture Month this year.”
DEBORAH M. COLTON, Deborah Colton Gallery
"Stew Vreeland spends his art making practice at opposite poles of the country, summers in Maine and winters in Houston. This dialectic may have sponsored a critical posture in regards to political and social issues, but also fostered a subtle, 'undergound' sense of humor."
"His installation at Sculpture Month Houston’s Solid State exhibition is a case in point. The title Guns & Rosès, refers to his sculpture consisting of an altered American Flag image. The artist wants us to look at it as a flag-draped funeral bier, with the flag made from spent shotgun shells and used wine corks, – “What a portrait of US they make.”

“Stew Vreeland’s ‘U – ME – US – WE’ resonated powerfully within the context of 'American Dream' at Raynham Hall Museum, seamlessly bridging Revolutionary history and contemporary discourse. His reimagining of Franklin’s iconic cartoon in vivid resin and glass felt especially attuned to the exhibition’s theme, standing out with a clarity and conceptual weight that was unforgettable."

"The whole is greater than the sum of its parts." Often overlooked and discarded objects are given new life in the hands of sculptor Stewart Vreeland. A master of metaphor, Vreeland layers objects with intention, imbuing them with new meaning. His playful works invite viewers to examine the past materials, encouraging them to uncover deeper significance within.
