GUNS & ROSÈS, 2018

Spent shotgun shells, wine corks, maple plywood, paint. 36” x 60” x 24”

A flag made of spent shotgun shells and used wine corks draped over a somber gray funeral bier. We stumbled over a gunny sack of shells on a farm in Fort Necessity, Louisiana, noting the shells were mostly red and blue and thinking “what a portrait of US that could make.” The shells and corks have quite different symbolism but they are both mass produced, found objects that happen to be the same relative diameter.
